How the starter fits into the vehicle

When the key or start button requests crank, the starter solenoid engages a small gear with the engine’s ring gear and the starter motor turns the engine until it runs.

Intermediate to advanced — straightforward on some vehicles, but difficult when access is below the engine or around hot exhaust parts.

Support the vehicle correctly before working underneath it; never rely on a jack alone and allow exhaust parts to cool.
